“Feast at the proper time”

Happy are you, O land, when your king is the son of the nobility, and your princes feast at the proper time, for strength and not for drunkenness! Ecclesiastes 10:17

Verse Reflections:  Eating should be for strength and not for “pigging out” or gluttony.  Drinking should be for renewing our fluids not for dulling our day or giving us bravado due to a buzz or drunkenness.  This sounds like a simple notion but the reality is often more difficult.  We so often feast on indulgent foods daily.  Some of us even drink alcohol daily.  This verse reminds us of how important it is to those who love us, depend on us or revere us that we eat for health and strength.  This verse tells us that our loved ones are happy when we do so.  And yet, we indulge in our own ambitions, our own desires rather than honoring those who depend on us in our eating and drinking habits. In the days of Jesus only the nobility and princes could feast daily. Today, many of us can make the choice to feast every day or we even choose processed foods because we feel we can’t afford to choose healthy foods. Why do we allow our bodies to gain weight that prevents us from enjoying activities or time with our families or friends? If we are suffering from health issues, we must protect ourselves and those we love by not indulging in sugar and carbohydrates.  We must only feast at the proper time and even then only for strength.  Remember your loved ones that will be happier when you eat properly.  Make this journey about them as much as for yourself. We must remember that their happiness is also influenced by our unhealthy eating habits.  We are not on a solo ride through this life.  Every choice affects other

All eating and drinking should be God foods chosen for strength.

Prayer:  Thank You God for reminding us of the influence our binging can have on others. Come down here today and physically, mentally remind me.  Eating has been a personal indulgence for me since I have memories  at four years old. I have always taken immense pleasure in choosing foods, creating foods, planning meals.  God, I forget to think of anyone but me when I eat. I just dive right in and don’t pause. If I do pause, I keep going in the direction I had already planned to go. I need You to remind me to stop eating for indulgence, and to eat for strength. Remind me that my strength is dependent on eating healthy.  Remind me that those who love me will be happier if I eat healthy and don’t affect my health with eating carbugars (sugar and carbohydrates). I need Your help.

Did you know? Refined sugars, especially high fructose corn syrup also shuts down the release of leptin, the hormone that tells you that you are full.
