Confident in War

Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I be confident. Psalm 27:3

Verse Reflections: The journey toward healthy eating and caring for our bodies often feels like a battle. We are surrounded by temptations—processed foods, sugary snacks, fast food—all readily available and vying for our attention. At times, it may seem like an army of unhealthy choices is besieging us, making it hard to stay on track. Yet, in the midst of this, God calls us to be confident.

In Psalm 27:3, David speaks of facing literal armies and wars, but the principle of this verse applies to the battles we face in our everyday lives as well. Whether we’re struggling with food, discipline, or unhealthy habits, we are encouraged not to let fear or discouragement take hold of our hearts. Even when it feels like war has broken out against our good intentions, we are called to be confident.

Why? Because our strength and confidence do not come from ourselves alone, but from God. Just as David trusted God’s protection in the face of enemies, we can trust that God will guide us and give us the strength to resist the temptations we face. We are not fighting this battle alone; God is with us every step of the way.

When we make the decision to nourish our bodies with healthy foods, we are honoring God’s creation—our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. But it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, especially when our old habits or unhealthy options surround us like an army. In those moments, instead of feeling defeated, we can turn to God for help and confidently declare that we will not fear. We can trust that God will help us win this battle for better health.

Today, let’s be reminded that though unhealthy habits may surround us, like an opposing army, our heart does not need to fear. With God’s help, we can stay strong, resist temptation, and confidently choose the foods that honor Him and nourish your body. We are not in this fight alone—God is with us, and He will give us the victory.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for being my strength and shield in the battle for healthier living. When I am surrounded by temptations and unhealthy options, remind me to stand confidently in You. Help me make wise choices that honor the body You’ve given me, and give me courage when I feel weak. Thank You for walking with me on this journey toward health. I do feel as though I am in a war. I raise my sword each morning and run forward to claim the victory and then I lower the sword (Your word) to convince myself that it is okay to give in to the battle today. I lower the weapons You have placed in my hands, I throw off the shield (of faith) and catch all the bullets that are being shot at me while somehow convincing myself that we will win the battle tomorrow. God I am tired of running into battle each day and failing. Please give me ridiculous confidence that I can win the battle today, not tomorrow. I don’t know what else to say about this verse. I just have to depend on You to win this war. I am done trying to win.  Love You.
