Contentment

But Godliness with contentment is great gain. I Timothy 6:6

Verse Reflections: Godliness is being like the character of God in your thoughts, character, feelings, desires and actions. I am so far from the character of God. This life here on earth is a continuous opportunity to become more and more like God. These two main points do not exclude each other. Each time we become more  Godly  we become more content in our life. We can remember this when we want seconds, we want foods that are not of God. Ironically, I have discovered that when I eat God foods, my cravings disappear and I am content.

We live in a world that constantly tells us we need more — more money, more possessions, more recognition. It is easy to find ourselves in a cycle of striving for more. We work harder, acquire more but we keep longing. We have to remember that all we need to gain is contentment in Christ. Godliness is seeking to align our lives with His will, pursuing a lifestyle that reflects His character of love, holiness, humility and, last butdefinitely not least, obedience. We must be obedient to eat healthy foods, to nourish our body with His foods. And gaining contentment, a quiet confidence that God is enough. In Him, we lack nothing. This contentment frees us up to eliminate cravings and overindulgences. We need to make sure we are not constantly craving foods that will never truly satisfy us. Today, we are going to be content, right now. We are going to be content with God foods and change our lives to seek to be more like Him.

Prayer:  Thank You Father for reminding us that we can be content with foods that draw us closer to You. Thank You for creating great foods we can fully enjoy. Thank You for reminding us that the greatest gain is never wealth, status or a feast but in walking with You and resting in your provisions. Teach us today to live godly lives, content with Your goodness and grace. Help us to trust You completely, knowing that You are more than enough. This verse will remind me to be content with You, and also with one helping! I can do this. I will strive for eating natural, healthy foods and being content in that beautiful solution. Guide me today in becoming more like You, more content.
