Right-ness

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. I John 1:9

Verse Reflections: I am ready to confess my sin of overeating. I am ready to be cleansed of not eating right (un-right-ness). God reminds us here that even when we are not faithful, he is faithful to us. We are forgiven. Every day we get to start all over again. When we fall short, we have a gracious God who forgives and cleanses us. Confession is the first step to breaking free from cycles of unhealthy habits, including those tied to eating and weight management. When we acknowledge where we’ve made poor choices, God meets us with mercy and sets us on a path to wholeness. And yet, how often do we truly fail to confess? We have to start with admitting we have a problem. So often, we want to just keep running through life with blinders on, telling ourselves we have a metabolism issue, or we just can’t burn the calories like we used to. We do not stop and confess to the truth that we have a serious eating issue. We are eating foods that are bad for us. We are eating foods that do not give us nutrition. We are eating processed foods, carbs and sugar that fool our bodies into thinking we are not full (that pesky little Ghrelin gremlin). I love the fact that this verse reminds us that we are forgiven and cleansed.

We often think of righteousness (right-ness) as relating to moral and spiritual choices. But this also applies to how we care for our physical bodies. Taking care of our body is an act of stewardship and worship. Yet, like in any area of life, we can stray. Overeating, choosing unhealthy foods, or neglecting exercise can lead us into patterns that don’t honor God’s design for our health. This is where rightness—walking in alignment with God’s will—comes into play.

Here’s the beautiful part: God not only forgives us, but He empowers us to make better choices. Each meal can become a moment of worship and obedience. As we choose nourishing foods and listen to the cues of our bodies, we align ourselves with the “rightness” God desires for us. Losing weight, then, becomes not just a physical goal but a spiritual journey—one of surrender, discipline, and trust.

Prayer:  Lord, thank You for loving me as I am and for offering Your forgiveness when I fall short. I confess the times over and over again that I’ve neglected my health and made choices that do not honor You. Cleanse me, Lord, and help me walk in the rightness of caring for my body as Your temple. You are faithful to me even when I am not faithful to You. Guide me in my journey to better health, and remind me that I don’t walk this path alone. Strengthen my heart and mind so that I can glorify You in all things—even in how I eat and care for my body. Help me to choose Your foods today, God foods. I know Your natural foods are life changing, health changing and habit changing. I so appreciate this verse, this call to move into rightness.
