Verse Reflections: We have to be patient with ourselves. It takes time to eliminate bad habits even with God’s power beside us. When we slip, when we automatically indulge before we even realize it, console yourself with patience and grace. God commands us here to be patient and to extend grace and consolation just as Jesus has to us. Our tendency is to criticize ourselves. Instead, look for the progress we have made. Even if you have not lost weight, are you choosing healthier foods? Are you thinking about your choices? Have you made your environment healthier?
Be patient with yourself and keep choosing God foods over processed foods. Your body is becoming healthier even if you haven’t begun dropping weight. Being “like-minded” with Christ means seeing food not as an escape or an idol, but as a gift to sustain our mission. Eating well helps us have the energy and focus to serve, love, and glorify God with both our minds and mouths. Ironic that this verse tells us to connect the worship of our minds with the worship of our mouth. In other words, we can’t go to church on Sundays, read our scripture and then put foods that destroy our bodies into our mouths. We have to unify our worship. Each meal becomes an opportunity to thank Him and live in unity with His will.
Today, be patient with yourself and think like Christ as we glorify Him with our minds and the choices of foods we put into our mouth.
Prayer: Christ, I thank You for reminding me to be patient with myself. As I struggle to make the choices You would make, as I try to be “like-minded” I often have to console myself after I fail. Thank You for reminding me that we can make changes and choices slowly but surely. I want to glorify You with the choices that I make today and every day. Change my mind, protect me from temptations and change my desires to be the same desires that You have for me. I love You so much. I say that I would do anything for You but I have not conquered my eating habits totally. I am making progress. I ask that You be patient even as I am learning patience with myself. Allow me to worship You with my mind and my mouth. Let’s work together today to eat healthy!
