Verse Reflections: Over and over, God promises us peace. This quality is vital for me in my journey to eating healthy. Anxiety creates cravings in me. There is a scientific reason for this. Anxiety and stress creates a hormone called cortisol produced by our adrenal glands. We tend to crave carbugars (carbs and sugars) when that happens which creates a vicious cycle because those foods produce more cortisol. The reason we crave these foods when we are stressed is because they help us release dopamine, a neurotransmitter that give us signals of pleasure and satisfaction. Learning these facts made a difference in my eating journey because I realized I was not weak or crazy. I also was able to change the cycle by eating a handful of my favorite nuts or moving a healthy meal earlier in my day to stop me from pushing these unhealthy cyclical buttons. Claiming the peace in Isaiah and many other scriptures has also made a difference. I am not going to let anxiety or stress invade my body. God promises us that He will ordain (establish) peace in us. Name it and claim it. Having peace is a huge part of our healing process. Isaiah goes further to promise that God has done works in us. Give Him credit for healing us now. Don’t wait until You see or feel results. Proclaim it. Isaiah promises us that God will and has done (past tense) our works in us. Close your eyes and feel His peace no matter what is going on in your life. Use that peace to embrace the changes, the works that He promises. Today, and every single day for the rest of Your life choose His foods. Choose God foods, change your life and be healthy and peaceful.
Prayer: Oh Father, You surround us with verses that change our hearts, our souls, our lives. You give us the peace we need to combat the natural cravings that our body sends out when we are stressed. You give us foods that we can eat that stop the cycle before we allow it to develop. You change the works, the habits in us. Thank You for the power You give us. Thank You for the knowledge You give us that allow us to change. I acknowledge that all good works—my discipline, my victories, and even my desire to make better choices—are wrought (accomplished) by You.
Lord, I surrender this journey into Your hands. Help me to see my health as a way to honor You, recognizing that my body is Your temple. Strengthen me to make wise decisions about the foods I eat and to stay committed to my goals, knowing that You are working within me to accomplish this good work.
When I feel weak or tempted, remind me that You are the one who equips me. Let Your peace fill my heart so that I don’t turn to unhealthy habits for comfort or escape. Instead, help me to rest in the assurance that You are with me, guiding me every step of the way. Lord, let this journey not be fueled by vanity or pressure, but by a desire to glorify You. Accomplish in me what I cannot accomplish on my own. Thank You for Your faithfulness and for the peace that comes from knowing You are working in and through me.
