"It is not good to eat much honey, nor is it glorious to seek one's own glory." Proverbs 25:26
Verse Reflections: What if we cancelled the sugar, wine and processed foods and didn’t lose any weight? Or you lose weight and no one notices or cares? Can you live with that? God is telling us to eat healthy without seeking glory for it. I have to admit I feel like God has sent this lifestyle to me but I do want to lose to the point people notice and ask me about it. What if no one notices the power the devotions have? What if no one cares? Ugh. I have to mature again and focus on healthy eating, not weight loss. God cares more about internal transformation than getting external attention from the world. Healthy living is not about worshipping our bodies, it is about faithfully taking care of them. I have to eat right and not care if it is noticed or even if it works to the level of glorifying myself, or my vanity in the mirror. I am going to look in the mirror to see the light of God reflecting out of my eyes. I am going to look for kindness. I am going to look for a person with love, no judgement for others or even for myself. Not judging myself is the toughest call to action. Moses shown a white light from his face when he spent time in the presence of God. I am going to seek to glorify God and dig deep to reflect the light of the Holy Spirit from within rather than looking at my external body.
Honey in scripture often represents sweetness, pleasure and abundance. Yet this verse reminds us that even good things can become harmful when eaten in excess. Honey is not bad – but too much honey is. In the same way, food is a gift from God but overindulgence can slowly take control of our health, energy, discipline and even our spiritual focus. Weight loss and healthy living are rarely just physical battles. They are battles of stress, self-control, seeking comfort, cravings and appetite. We have to quit turning to food for peace, reward, or escape when God is inviting us to turn to Him instead. Today, we are going to turn to God and eat His natural foods.
Prayer: Father, help me glorify You and You only. Give me the power from within to not care if anyone notices a weight loss. Give the power from within to eat healthy despite the feedback, the results I see. I know I am eating to give my body more nutrition. I know I feel better each day. Bless my ability to not “eat much honey” Yikes! I love honey, sugar… This is the right thing to do so give me strength. Surround me with Your sweetness so I won’t crave sweetness or energy from a quick fix through foods or wine. I love You. We can do this together. Transform me Lord from within!
