Stand Firm

“But he who stands firm until the end will be saved.“ Matthew 24:13

Verse Reflections: Firmness is the one quality I do not always have. I start out firm, making the right food choices and then I waiver and give into mental cravings. If I will stand firm then I will, indeed, be saved from myself and my bad habits. I will be saved (in the end) from being overweight. I will be saved from my own vanity which creates anxiety when I do just one thing “wrong”. Maybe the next time I waiver I will remember this commandment to stand firm. The journey to lose weight and eat healthy is definitely a test of endurance, discipline and faith. We have to stand firm through challenges, temptations and discouragement. It is so easy to start out enthusiastically and then as days go by, we can return to old patterns… comfort foods, skipping workouts or giving in to frustration after a setback. Standing firm also means that we have to remain committed even when it is difficult, knowing that perseverance leads to lasting transformation. I know that every time I stay firm I am growing in the spiritual fruit of patience, self-control and faithfulness. Standing firm strengthens our faith and brings us closer to the saving grace of abundant life He desires for us. I have to remember that standing firm can also mean getting back up and continuing forward if I stumble.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for reminding me to stand firm no matter what! I know that I will be saved from myself if I stand firm in choosing Your foods. I know I have to stay committed to the healthy choices You have directed me to make. Remind me that perseverance honors You. Thank You for walking with me and I am going to claim the victory You are promising us here. Save me from myself. Save me from temptations. I will do my part of standing firm. Give me a renewed strength and endurance. Help me to know that every step forward brings me closer to health. I know that Your foods are the foods You have called me to indulge in. I don’t expect life to be easy and yet somehow, I keep expecting You to make this easy for me. I have to remember that it is a road of endurance. I love You and with Your help we are going to stand firm today and every day! Amen
